Research Process 3

    Today, I found a movie that name “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”. I already watched the first two installments of this series movie, but the third one is totally different from the first two. However, my research paper does not focus on the differences between the third one and the first two installments. In “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”, there are two Chinese women who have mysterious power and Chinese Kungfu. Besides, although this movie shows the modern time, these two women still like in Qing dynasty. To be honesty, most Chinese women do not have Chinese Kungfu, and few of them wear clothes in Qing dynasty. However, this movie is fantasy style. I could not figure out every detail in the movie, although there are a lot of elements of Chinese women that are wrong. Maybe, I can use this movie into my research paper.

    My topic is that the representatives of Chinese women in western film. Therefore, the key words of my topic are “Chinese women” and “western film”. When I type these two key words in to search bar, there is no direct resource about my topic. Thus, I should expand my key words, for examples, like women in film, Chinese in western, Chinese women in western and so on. When I find resources, I should skim the summary of the resources, and then I can figure out the resources whether is useful.

Research Process 2

    According to the resources that I found, most of them do not have direct information or advice to my research paper. The thesis of my paper is to figure out the Chinese women in western movies. However, when I entered some key words like “Chinese women in western movies”, “Chinese in western movies”, or “Chinese women in movies”, there is no direct resource that can help me to develop my paper. Only a few of them just have some information that related to my paper. Maybe, I should find another way to expand my resources.

Developing Purpose Statement and Research Question

The purpose of this ethnography study is to develop a great understanding of the representatives of Chinese women in western movies. How do western people portray the Chinese women characters in their movies? Do the Chinese women characters perform in Chinese traditional thinking or in western style in the movies? Are there some wrong parts with actresses’ performance? 

Research Process 1

      Today, I watched a movie called Joy Luck Club, which was related to my topic. There are some women in this film, and everyone has her own personalities. Because my topic is "repersentative of chinese women in western movie", I would focus on chinese women. Besides, some part of this film I do not really understand, maybe I should watch it one more time.
